Strengthening Communication Skills Through Micro-Credential English for Communication

Developing Practical Speaking, Listening and Presentation Skills

Raffles University offers the Micro-Credential English for Communication, a structured learning programme designed to strengthen learners’ speaking and listening skills across a variety of social and academic situations.

Delivered across 10 classes with three hours per class, the Micro-Credential provides a total of 30 contact hours, giving learners opportunities to develop practical communication skills through listening, discussion, presentation and other communication activities.

Building Confidence in Speaking and Listening

The Micro-Credential focuses on developing learners’ ability to communicate effectively in different situations. Learners practise participating in small-group discussions and meetings, expressing opinions, responding to different viewpoints and communicating on a variety of issues.

Listening skills are developed through activities covering areas such as listening for gist and details, predicting content, recognising signposts and taking notes.

Developing Effective Presentation Skills

Presentation skills form another important component of the learning experience. Learners develop their ability to prepare and deliver presentations, use visual aids effectively and respond to follow-up questions.

The learning also covers practical communication techniques such as giving opinions, agreeing and disagreeing, rephrasing, explaining ideas, providing examples and supporting arguments.

Learners are also introduced to specialised vocabulary for communicating concepts, events and situations within business or design contexts.

A Structured Approach to Communication Development

Throughout the Micro-Credential, learners engage with communication skills ranging from conversational speaking and active listening to presentations, questioning and reporting results.

Assessment is conducted through quizzes, homework, a mid-term assessment and a final examination, providing a structured approach to evaluating learners’ progress.

Through the Micro-Credential English for Communication, Raffles University provides learners with an opportunity to strengthen practical English communication skills that can support their academic and professional development.
